FROZEN SOCKS...

Last night I put my socks in the freezer...

No, I’m not clinically insane, please don’t call the asylum - just hear me out.

When I was a student in my final year, my lecturer told us about sock hydrotherapy and how it is an amazing and easy way to give the immune system a kickstart.

But when she told us that it consists of wearing cold, frozen socks to bed, I was hella confused and v e r y skeptical. But once I tried it out, I was sold!

What is hydrotherapy?

Very easily, hydrotherapy is a form of therapy using water.

Sock hydrotherapy consists of taking 100% (or as close as possible) cotton socks which cover your ankle, popping them in the freezer for at least an hour (if you have less time, wet them with cold water then put in the freezer).

Once you are ready for bed, you soak or wet your feet with hot water (as hot as you can handle 🔥) and straight away put on your frozen socks. THEN you put on 100% wool socks and go to sleep.

You will have the warmest and comfiest sleep 😍

Now comes the WHY?

This actually helps to get your immune system working because your feet are cold and your body is warm and your internal workings are freaking out and they need to get your body back to homeostasis! This makes a fake, low fever in your body which helps to kill off pathogens present.

So if you’re starting to feel sick, everyone around you is sniffing and coughing, or you’re the only one still standing in a household full of the cold and flu, just do some sock hydrotherapy!

I woke up this morning feeling 100%!

Let me know if you have any questions and happy weekend 🎉

PS: I got my wool socks from Cape Union Mart, and my cotton ones (about 94% cotton) from Woolworths. Definitely worth every cent!

Keep smiling!

Yours in health,

Dr Shavit
